Chief Demarcus Weems of the Town of Mosses hosted a Drive Thru Community Fest for residents last weekend at the Mosses Town Hall.

The event took place on Saturday, July 25, and consisted of free food, free PPE products and music from DJ Grandmaster at 365Jamz.

“It’s giving me an opportunity to meet the public and their families because I feel like I’m their family now,” Weems said.

The Community Fest was sponsored by The Town of Mosses Police Department, First Place Financial Group, TEEN Direct, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Gumptown Magazine, The Serious Injury Law Group, Workable Solutions, Council On Substance Abuse NCADD, Jackson Professional Funeral Services, Sheyann and Andre Christburg and Ro Tyus.

“The event was successful,” Weems said. “We were able to connect with the community and we’re looking forward to doing more positive things for years to come.”

Chief Weems plans to host more events where the community can meet leaders and connect with each other in The Town of Mosses within the next few months.

As for Chief Weems’ next step as the new chief, the Mosses Police Department recently partnered with Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, who will assist in solving and preventing crime.

Chief Weems also wants to do more for the children of the community. With the help of Alabama State University, Weems plans to start an enrichment program to help mentor and tutor students.

“This is my way of showing the community that I want to be involved,” Weems concluded.

Chief Weems’ next event will be a voter registration event for the community at the beginning of September.
