Hosted by Myron’s Helping Hand Foundation, the event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at the Lowndes Interpretive Center, 7002 U.S. Hwy. 80 and features a variety of food vendors, health vendors, live music, painting, bouncers for the kids, raffles, prizes, treats and event a one-mile walk and speaker.

“This year, our health expo focuses on all ages and total body health,” Osha Surles of Myron’s Helping Hands Foundation said. “We will be focusing on them physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  We’ll have a nutritionist, people from the Health Department, various agencies and the Blood Bank on hand. Alabama Mental Health and the Sunshine Center will be there. We’re going to educating people on how to stay fit. I’m very excited. We’re trying to be more diverse with this.”

Surles said Myron’s Helping Hands is working to branch out from its unusual service to the community.

“Our other events we target are food drives and things like that,” she said.  “We also have an annual book bag drive for the upcoming school year.  We were established in 2014.”

The goal of the health and wellness event s to show individuals what is available to them Surles said.

“We want to be able to introduce people to agencies that help people and be a blessing for them,” she said. “We want to partner with people and help them provide for their families.”

Surles said there would be a variety of entertainment and fun for those who attend.

“There’s something for everybody,” she said. “Judy’s Art is providing painting and activities for the kids.”

Another event that Surles hopes participants will be a part of id a 1-mile walk/

“They can register between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. and at 10 a.m. we’ll do a one-mile walk,” she said. “It’s another way to promote being healthy.  We want to encourage people to walk a little every day. We want to provide proper education for good health.” Several other activities will be on tap at the event including entertainment from DJ Hollywood from Montgomery, a fire truck from the Hicks Hill Black Belt Volunteer Fire Department that kids can tour and much more.

“It’s free and it’s family oriented,” Surles concluded.
