Crash claims life of Lowndes teen

A single-vehicle crash at 2:10 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 30, claimed the life of a Hayneville teenager.

Corporal Jess Thornton, Alex City Highway Patrol Post, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said, “The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene when the 2005 Ford Escape, in which he was a passenger, left the road and struck a tree. ”

He  said the teenager “was not using a seat belt.”

Thornton said the driver was transported to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment of injuries.

At 3:14 p.m. Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office personnel  said County Road 2 was being blocked at Main Street, Mosses and Lowndes County Road 2 and at Alabama Highway 21 and at Lowndes County Road 2.  However, the Sheriff’s Office later reported the road is now open.

Thornton said, “The crash occurred on Lowndes County 2 near the city of Mosses.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.”
