On Saturday, June 16, the Elmore Bolling Foundation will honor his spirit with its fifth Annual Legacy Luncheon Awards Banquet. The program will be held at the White Hall Municipal Complex 989 Freedom Road Lowndesboro, Alabama at 1:30 p.m.

Bolling was a black entrepreneur and philanthropist whose successful business interests led to his being killed at the age of 39 on Dec. 4, 1947, according to his daughter Josephine Bolling McCall, president of The Elmore Bolling Foundation.

McCall is the author of the book “The penalty for Success: My Father Was Lynched in Lowndes County, Alabama.” And her father is listed among the Alabama martyrs of the Civil Rights Movement.

McCall said awards will be given to “persons in the community who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of citizenship, education and entrepreneurship (small business owner).”

She also said a scholarship will be given to a high achieving graduating senior from Calhoun. Last year’s scholarship award went to Chelsea K. Glover of Central High School.

“We are so excited this year that our luncheon speaker will be the Rev. Marcus L. Boyd, pastor of Union Academy Baptist Church in Montgomery,” McCall said.

McCall said tickets are $15 each. And the churches that submitted a $150 donation by June 4 will be listed in the luncheon program.

Vickie Rothbaum is chairman of the Elmore Bolling Foundation and Constance Belser-Quinn is Legacy Luncheon program chairman.

The steering committee includes Amy Perry, LaShawn Long, Barbara Weatherly, Vickie Rothbaum, Jo McCall, Linda Lawrence and Dr. Regina Moorer.

Tax Deductible Donations in any amount may still be mailed in to Barbara Weatherly, 7313 Old Mitylene Rd., Montgomery, AL 36117.
