Three Hayneville Town Council members disputed that the Monday, May 14 meeting of Hayneville Town Council was adjourned and showed up for what they considered a continued meeting at a closed Hayneville Town Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.

After Hayneville Town Council members Sharon Reeves, Cynthia McDonald and Lula Tyson-Bailey initially walked out of a Hayneville Town Council meeting and returned Monday night, Tyson-Bailey made a motion to adjourn Monday’s meeting until 5 p.m. Tuesday for which she received a second.

Attorney Edward Kendall, who represented the town of Hayneville in the absence of terminated town attorney Michael G. Strickland, said, however, once the three council members walked out, “There was no longer a quorum. The meeting was over.” And Hayneville Mayor David Daniel stated to those in attendance, “Okay. This meeting is adjourned.”

Tuesday, afternoon, Reeves, McDonald, Tyson-Bailey and concerned citizen, Connie Johnson, were standing outside Hayneville Town Hall at about 5 p.m.

Tyson-Bailey said Tuesday, “When we walked out (Monday night), the meeting wasn’t adjourned. When we came back in we had a quorum, and I made the motion to adjourn until today at 5 (which was seconded). Once a motion is on the floor, David (Daniel) has got to carry it.”

She said she did not know who Kendall was, “But he wasn’t representing the town. He wasn’t hired.”

The Signal requested to be notified the next time the council was to meet, and no notice was given Tuesday. A meeting was also not posted on the Town Hall front door Tuesday.
