Lowndes County 2018 Youth Livestock Show winners named

Competing for showmanship and showing their animals, winners were announced in the Lowndes County 2018 Youth Livestock Show, held Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Mid-State Stockyard LLC in Letohatchee.

Lowndes County Commissioner Carnell McAlpine, who served as a youth advisor for the livestock show, said, “It was excellent… The kids did a good job, excellent animals. We look forward to going to the state to compete.”

Winners included:

Rookie Showmanship, Bryant Lambert Jr. first and MaKensie Carter, second.

Senior Showmanship, Christy Daniel, first; Coleman Hunter, second; and Daraja Maye, third.

Heifer Show, Carter, first, grand champion, Hunter, second, reserve champion.

Steer Show, Light Weight, Lambert, fist; Daniel, second; Medium Weight, Mae, first; Heavy Weight, Hunter, first and second; Grand Champion Steer, Maye; Reserve Champion, Hunter.

Brenson Crenshaw served as master of ceremonies, George Richburg served as judge and Katanga Mants, who is moving on from her job as County Extension Coordinator, Lowndes County Office after 13 years, was in charge of records.

Danzerrick Rudolph, Winford Logan Jr. and Dwight Brooks served as ringmen. And scales were manned by George Hunter Jr., County Agent, Tuskegee, Nathaniel Hayes, Jasper Lambert and David Daniel Sr.

Youth advisors included McAlpine, George Hunter Jr. and Jasper Lambert.

The event was sponsored by the Lowndes County Commission, Lowndes County Cattlemen’s Association, Lowndes County Farmers Federation and Mid-State Stockyard LLC.

Winners advance to the Sate Show held during the 2018 Junior Beef Expo, March 15-17 at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery.
