Both the Central Lady Lions and the Calhoun varsity boys Tigers have advanced to regional play at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.

The Central High Lady Lions defeated Choctaw County High School 90-42 Monday night Feb. 12 to advance to the central regionals at Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Friday, Feb. 16.

The Tigers who will play Aliceville High School at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, defeated Southern Choctaw High 80-63 on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Central Lady Lions head basketball coach Terry Thomas said Cordasia Harris led the Lady Lions with 28 points, Derrica McCall scored 21, Kadaijah Williams scored 17 and Melody Walker scored 17 points.

Thomas said Walker, a junior, is the only player on the team to play all five positions. He also said his team’s effort on defense and making shots, clicking at the right time put them in the position to get back to Alabama State for regional play and he can’t wait.

Calhoun varsity boys head basketball coach Ervin Starr said Jerdarrian Davison led five scorers in double digits with 20 points.

He said, “I thought we moved great at the defensive end,” and, “We really did a good job of rebounding tonight. I was very pleased with the way we performed tonight on the road against an area champion.”
