Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded grants totaling $95,272 to provide equipment for law enforcement agencies in Lowndes, Butler and Crenshaw counties.

The grants will help the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Greenville Police Department and the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office purchase a variety of equipment including computers and items to increase officer safety.

“The men and women of our law enforcement agencies put their lives on the line each and every day to serve and protect the residents of their jurisdictions, and it is imperative that we provide them the necessary equipment to perform their duties safely and effectively,” Ivey said. “I am pleased to award these grants to help the officers of these agencies in their daily work.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation development.

Ivey awarded the following grants:

• $24,000 to the Lowndes County Commission for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase tablet-style computer equipment.
• $23,847 to the city of Greenville for bullet proof vests for the police department.
• $24,000 to the Butler County Commission for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase new laptops.
• $23,425 to the Crenshaw County Commission to upgrade in-car computer equipment for the Sheriff’s Office.
