The Lowndes County Cattlewomen’s Association recognized its Father of the Year and scholarship award winners at a steak banquet held at Campo Del Rio Farm, owned by Michael Dansby off Old Selma Road in Lowndes County, Monday night.

Kathleen Evans, president of the Lowndes County Cattlewomen’s Association presented the awards to Tyler Ellis for Father of the Year and to Keri Ward for the association’s $1,000 scholarship.

Tyler Ellis is the son of Thomas Ellis, co-owner of Priester’s Pecans in Fort Deposit. He accepted the award with his sons Henry, Hays and Luke and his wife, Sarah.

Sarah Ellis read comments from Hays, who said his dad likes to play games and that he loved him. And Luke, who said, “I like to ride in my daddy’s truck, and I like for him just to sit with me.”

Sara said, “Not only is he an awesome dad, he’s also a wonderful husband. We are all just so blessed to have him in our lives. He’s so faithful… just an awesome man.”

Evans presented a $1,000 scholarship to Keri Ward, a graduate of Lowndes Academy, who accepted the ward with her grandparents Joe and Laura Ward and her parents Joey and Lora Ward.

Keri Ward, who enjoyed a 3.8 grade point average, said she plans to attend the University of South Alabama to major in arts and sciences and study pre-med to make a career in the areas of medicine and dermatology.
