The event was the brainchild of Calhoun head basketball coach Derrick Powell.

Powell said he is from Lowndes County, is a physical education teacher and a mentor. He also said God put him in a position to give back to his community, so, he started the walk to “promote physical, mental and social health.”

He said the goal is for people to “live healthier lives” in Lowndes County under the motto “Don’t just talk about it, walk about it.”
