Central boys/Calhoun girls continue toward state title

And then there were two.
Both Calhoun and Central saw their girls and boys teams advance to sub regional play. But Tuesday night, the road came to an end for the Calhoun Boys and the Central girls while the Central boys and the Calhoun girls continue toward a state title at Alabama State.
The Choctaw County boys defeated the Calhoun boys 63-54 at Choctaw. The Central girls lost to the Choctaw County girls 65-50 at Choctaw.
On the positive side of things, the Calhoun girls defeated Southern Choctaw 62-44.
The Lady Tigers were led by Toni Young, who scored 18 points and who grabbed 12 rebounds. Jamiah Smith and Amber Harris both scored 13 points each for the Lady Tigers, and Harris had seven assists.
Calhoun Lady Tigers coach Eddie Howard said his girls next play at 12 noon on Friday at Alabama state.
He said, “We played pretty good. I think they understand the team concept and what coach (Jasper) Lambert and myself have been preaching to them at practice.” He said there is always something they could do better, “But all in all it was a good team effort tonight.”
The Central boys defeated Southern Choctaw 62-52. Adrian Taylor led the Lions with 15 points while Justavius Robinson chipped in 10 points.
Central varsity boys head basketball coach Brian Coleman said, “We won by 10 points, playing solid. That’s saying a lot, but we’ve still got a long way to go.”
The Central Boys will play R.C. Hatch in regional semifinal play on Friday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the
Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery. The Calhoun girls will next play in regional semifinal action on Friday at 12 noon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
