In their season home opener, the Central High School Lions boys varsity basketball team fought well, but came up short against Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School of Montgomery Friday night 61 to 55.
Keno Davis led the Lions with 16 points followed by Diamonta Johnson with 12.
Following the contest, Brian Coleman, second year Central High varsity boys head basketball coach and athletic director, was upbeat about his team’s performance.
“We played hard for the situation we are in,” Coleman said. “We have a couple of players who are injured. But once we get everybody together, I feel like we are going to be a great team.”
Coleman said the Lions played with seven players and three of them fouled out. “So, we did a pretty good job to lose by six to a great team from Brewbaker.”
Coleman said those who stood out for him were Malek Hill, Davis, Johnson and Adrian Taylor. He said Johnson fouled out, but had some great plays.
Things did not go so well for the Lady Lions under head girls varsity basketball coach Trent Woodley.
The Lady Lions fell to Brewbaker Technology 92-18.
The Lions will next be in action on Nov. 25 in the Selma High Tournament.
