The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds forage, livestock, and honey producers of the Nov. 15 deadline to purchase crop insurance in Alabama.
Acreage intended for grazing and haying is insurable under the Pasture, Rangeland and Forage (PRF) program.
Colonies of bees are insurable under the Apiculture program. For 2016, the PRF and Apiculture programs are under the Rainfall Index insurance plan.
Growers need to buy, review, or modify their crop insurance policies before the sales closing date has passed. Crop insurance provides protection against crop production losses due to natural perils such as drought, hail, and excessive moisture.
Information about these crop insurance programs and resources such as the Decision Support Tool, Grid ID Locator, and historical indices for each grid ID and index interval, is available on the RMA website. Producers and agents are encouraged to use this information to learn more about these programs and determine insurability.
