The Lowndes Academy Rebels went on the road Friday night to get their fifth win of the season and a shot at winning record with a 36-28 victory over the Macon East Academy Knights.
The Rebels, who finished Class A Region 2 play at 3-3, improved to 5-4 with a chance to go 6-4 if they can knock off Autauga Academy on the road next Thursday.
“We played well tonight,” said Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor. “We had some people get banged up and had some younger players step up and do a great job. It was big for us to get to five wins on the year with a chance to have a winning record.”
The Rebels had 303 yards of total offense in this contest with 95 yards through the air and 208 yards on the ground.
Rebels’ quarterback Wade Howard was six of 11 passing for one touchdown. He also tossed one interception and lost one fumble. Those were the only turnovers on the night for the Rebels.

Defensively the Rebels were led by Owen Nall, who had 18 tackles, two assists and one sack and Hussey, who had 12 tackles and four assists. Jimbo Wheeler also recovered one fumble for the Rebels.
The Rebels opened the scoring in this contest in the first quarter with a 40-yard touchdown strike from Howard to Hussey.
The Knights responded with a 1-yard touchdown run and point after to go up 7-6. But Rebels would score twice more to make it a 20-7 first period in favor of Lowndes Academy and never trailed again.
Reid scored on a 1-yard run, and Howard scored on a 19-yard run. The Rebels also added a successful 2-point conversion.
Make East would score on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and added the point after to make it 20-14 contest in favor of Lowndes Academy at the half.
The Rebels would add the only points in the third quarter and double up the score 28-14 on the Knights by way of a 52-yard run by Hussey and 2-point conversion.
Macon East would get two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on 3-yard and 2-yard touchdown runs and points after. But sandwiched in between those scores was a 9-yard touchdown run by Reid and a 2-point conversion to make it a 36-28 final.
