Central and Calhoun fall on the road

Central High and Calhoun High both took it on the chin in Friday’s football action.
The Central High Lions fell on the road to non-regional opponent Autaugaville 38-2. And the Calhoun Tigers fell on the road to non-regional opponent W.S. Neal 54-6.
The loss at Autaugaville dropped the Lions to 0-5 overall. They remain 0-3 in 2A Region 3 play and travel Friday to face regional opponent Zion Chapel.
For Central Jaquez Bolling had seven carries for 76 yards and Diamonta Johnson had two catches for 37 yards.
Central head football coach Martez Graham said his Lions’ offensive line did not block well. “Changes have to be made,” he said. However, the first year head football coach at Central said his defensive played, “extremely well.”
The loss at W.S. Neal dropped the Tigers to 0-5 overall. They remain 0-3 in 2A Region 3 play and will host regional opponent Luverne on Friday.
For Calhoun Arthur Phifer ran for 75 yards and caught passes for 60 yards including a 30-yard pass from Jamichael Carter for a touchdown.
Calhoun head football coach Dewayne Williams said his team gave an “overall valiant effort for not giving up.”
He also said W.S. Neal’s athletic director told him Calhoun is a “classy team” and the he “could see improvements.”
