The White Hall Town Council will hold a special called meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11 to address matters brought before the council at its regular Thursday, including a mobility senior transportation grant application.
Presiding in place of Mayor James Walker, who was absent, Mayor Pro Tem Glenn Mallard reported on the opportunity for the town to receive a “mobility senior transportation grant.”
He said, “This is something that will help the elderly be able get to different areas they need to go to.”
Mallard said the funds would come from an 80/20 matching grant for which the town would put up $10,538 of a total $52,690 grant. He said the town would also have to work with the Lowndes County Commission, which has funding for the operation of the vehicle.
According to Mallard, the grant would have to be submitted by Aug. 14.
Upon the request of Council member Audrey Peterson the matter was tabled for additional information until Monday at 7 p.m.
The council also tabled action on a Judicial Correction Services proposal regarding the collection of municipal court fines, a request from Catherine Flowers of the Alabama Center for Rural Enterprise (ACRE) to use of a building across the street from White Hall Town Hall it has used in the past and an appearance by Acting Police Chief Wilbert Barnfield.
