With provisional votes counted, Travis Rogers, 29, of Burkville, remains the “unofficial” winner of the Lowndes County Board of Education District 5 seat, according to the numbers released by the Lowndes County Probate Office.
Rogers, a court specialist 3 in the Lowndes County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, defeated Joe Pernell 151 to 138 in the Democratic Primary Runoff on Tuesday, July 15 with 52.25 percent of the vote to 47.75 percent for Pernell.
After provisional votes were counted on Tuesday, July 22, Rogers picked up one additional vote to six for Pernell.
The result was still a win, however, although slightly closer for Rogers 152 to 144 or 51.35 percent to 48.65.
Pernell had one more absentee ballot than Rogers in the runoff election leading in that category 24 to 23.
“I thought it was a fair race,” Rogers said of his election following the runoff. “I’m happy about the results of the race. This is something I’ve wanted to do for the past eight years.”
Amendment One, which passed on July 15, 323 to 131 picked up five provisional yes votes. There were no against provisional ballots cast.
A total of 587 people voted in the Lowndes County Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff.
