Lowndes County Circuit Court Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell set a special arraignment for Feb. 26 for Walter Sylvester Hill, 45, current mayor of Mosses and former Emergency Management Agency Director for Lowndes County.

Hill, who was indicted by a Lowndes County grand jury on Jan. 13 in connection with his role as former EMA director on charges of forgery second degree, a Class C felony, and use of official position or office for personal gain, a misdemeanor, appeared before Judge Lovell Friday without an attorney present.

According to a court document, the forgery second degree involved a non-driver’s I.D. card, and the use of official position or office for personal gain charge involved the position of Emergency Management Agency Director to “obtain personal gain for himself, a family member, or a business with which he was associated.”

Hill said at the time of the indictments that the charges do not relate to his position as mayor, but as the former EMA director.

He said Friday he will be represented by attorney H. Lewis Gillis.

According to information provided by the Lowndes County Office of Circuit Clerk, Hill was indicted by the grand jury on Jan. 13, arrested, and a bond of $2,500 was set.

An official at the John Hulett Detention Center in Hayneville said Hill was booked and bonded out on Jan. 13.
