“I think I’m going to like it. It’s my field, just I’ve never done the public part of it, but the other part I have done.”

Those are the words of Rutha Davis-Bonner, the new library director for the Hayneville-Lowndes Public Library.

In her some 40-year career as a pubic school librarian, Bonner has worked at Calhoun School for three years, in Monroe County 1 year, Shiloh Middle School in Dallas County for 3 years and 24 years at Valley Grande Elementary in Dallas County.

“We are thrilled to have her, and I know she will do a wonderful job serving the patrons of our county,” said Patricia Farrior, chairman of the Hayneville-Lowndes Public Library Board of Trustees.

Bonner said she makes her home in Lowndes County in Famersville. She said he has some ideas for the library, but wants to share them with the library board before any are announced.

She studied at Patrick Henry Junior College, Troy State and Alabama State where she earned a master’s degree as a media specialist.

Bonner said she is 64-years-old and has two children, a son Dan Wayne Davis, of Gordonville, and a daughter, Bridget Nicole Davis of Troy. She married Roosevelt Bonner.

Bonner began her duties Wednesday, Jan. 8 and replaces Stephanie Hammonds as library director.
