The Lowndes Academy Rebels came out on the short end of a 35-20 score at Jackson Academy Friday night.

Rebels head football coach Matt Marshall said he thought his team matched up well with the Eagles going into Friday’s contest and that his team could run the ball on them.

However, Marshall said the Rebels gave up the ball on four turnovers that were drive killers.

“We’d move the ball fairly well and then we’d shoot ourselves in the foot,” Marshall said. “I thought our kids put forth a lot of effort, but it just wasn’t our night.”

The Rebels kept the game close trailing 14-13 at the half.

Cody Harrell put Lowndes Academy on the board first with a 9-yard touchdown run and extra point.

The Eagles responded, however, to tie the game at 7-7 and then go up 14-7.

David Hussey would block a punt into the end zone, which was recovered by Chad Shaner for the Rebels to make it a 14-13 contest.

Garrett Headley scored for the Rebels on a 45-yard touchdown run, and Harrell added the point after to close out the Rebels’ scoring.

The Rebels rushed for a total of 204 yards with Thomas Ward leading the way with 78. And the Rebels passed for 146 yards with Harrell completing 8 of 17 for 116 yards and Headley going 1-1 for 30 yards.

Hussey was the leading tackle for the Rebels with 11 while Seth Senn had nine.

The loss drops the Rebels to 3-6 on the year with Morgan Academy slated to visit on Halloween Night.
