The Lowndes Signal
Lowndes Academy was unable deliver a victory over regional opponent Wilcox Academy on the night the school named its football stadium for its first ever head football coach Stewart McWhorter (Mac) Champion Jr.
The Rebels now 3-4, 1-4 fell to the 5-2, 3-0 Wildcats by a score of 34-20.
For the Rebels, Cody Harrell completed 20 of 40 passes in an air attack that netted 229 yards and one touchdown.
His main target was Corey Lowe, who had six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown that came on a 27-yard strike.
Garrett Headley led the Rebels in rushing with 102 yards and two touchdowns. One of his scores was an 8-yard run and the other was a 45-yard run.
On defense for the Rebels, David Hussey and John Blackmon had nine tackles each, and Seth Senn had eight.
Lowndes Academy head football coach Matt Marshall said that Wilcox Academy would probably be the best team his Rebels have faced this season.
He said the Wildcats averaged 260 lbs. across their line and they would provide a challenge.
Marshall proved correct.
The Rebels will be on the road next Friday to face the Autauga Academy Generals in a non-regional match.
