The Luverne Tigers remained undefeated and added loss number 55 to Central-Hayneville’s losing streak during Friday night’s 54-22 victory.
Luverne quarterback Kenterius Womack connected with wide receiver Preston Sankey after the opening kick off for a 54-yard touchdown pass.
The Tigers two-point conversion was no good.
Luverne runningback Jonathan Chambers took the ball to the end zone for a 7-yard run with 6:43 left in the first quarter, putting the Tigers on top 12-0.
Luverne’s defense shut down the Lions offense, and on the Tigers’ next possession Womack found wide receiver Uriah Brown for a 70-yard touchdown, and Quez Watkins ran in the two-point conversion, putting LHS up 20-0.
Womack hit Sankey for another touchdown, and the Tigers added another two points before the first quarter was up.
The Tigers didn’t let up in the second quarter, Womack hit Watkins for a 23-yard pass for a touchdown and the PAT was good, with 11:21 left in the second.
The Luverne-D put the pressure to Central and recovered the ball for another TD.
Brown’s PAT was good, putting Luverne up 42-0 at the half.
Luverne came out ready and Brown intercepted the ball.
Womack, on a quarterback keeper, ran 40-yards for a touchdown.
Luverne’s Trey Tyson intercepted a Lions’ pass for a 22-yard TD run, for Luverne’s last touchdown of the night.
On the next possession, Central’s Ladarious Thicklin scored the Lions’ first TD on a 7-yard run, and Terraris Saffold ran in the two-point conversion, with 1:34 left in the third.
Central scored again, when quarterback Jaquez Bolling hit Saffold for a TD pass.
Central scored one more TD and a two-point conversion before the game ends.
Central coach James Dibb said, “this was a great learning experience for our young team, even though they were out classed, they can take a positive experience on what our program is all about.”
Luverne head coach Mike Dubose said, “as well as the first and second strings played, the third string has to learn a lot fundamentally because they are our future.”
