Lowndesboro’s James Pate is racking up on scholarships this year, and recently followed in his brother’s footsteps to earn the local cattlewomen’s scholarship.

The Lowndes County Cattlewomens Association recently awarded James Pate, son of Rick Pate, mayor of Lowndesboro and Julie Pate a $500 scholarship.

LCCA President Mary Pate presented the scholarship on Thursday, June 13 at the Pate Charolais Ranch in Lowndesboro.

“It’s just a huge honor for me just growing up in Lowndesboro and having my bother (Richard) get it before me,” James Pate said of winning the scholarship for 2013.

He is a graduate of Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery and plans to attend Auburn University in the fall to major in pre-med.

According to Rick Pate, James (Pate) has also been awarded a $1,000 one-year scholarship for academic achievement, as well as another four-year $6,000 Achievement Scholarship from Auburn University.

He also received  $1,000 from the Lowndes County Farmer’s Federation and a $1,500 scholarship from the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation Tagged for Greatness Scholarship.

Pate received the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence from the U. S. Secretary of Education.
