“Our goal is to have a sea of purple throughout Lowndes County to show our communities’ commitment to the fight against cancer, our desire to put an end to the suffering and lives lost from this dreadful disease, and our hope that a cure will be found!  Will you join us?” asks Zandra Colston.

Colston is co-chairman of the Lowndes County Relay for Life, which is set for 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. beginning Friday, April 26 at the Russell Baseball Complex in Hayneville.

Callie Griffin is heading the Paint the Town Purple Campaign and is asking every church and person in the county that has not gotten involved to support this cause by donating $25 dollars for every requested bow, Colston said.

“This fundraiser will allow churches and individuals throughout the county the opportunity to honor and/or memorialize loved ones touched by cancer as well as support the Lowndes County Relay For Life event,” she said.

Colston said every cancer has a color and “We’re out to cure them all…not just breast cancer, not just prostate cancer but, every cancer!“

She said it is hoped everyone will take this opportunity to join this worthy cause by donating $25 for each ribbon they would like to display.

To participate in this campaign, contact Colston at  Zandra.Colston@yahoo.com or (334) 315-0962, Griffin, or any Relay For Life team member.

Colston said ribbons can be requested through April 22 and all proceeds go to Relay For Life of Lowndes County.

In addition, Colston said, on Relay Night from 5:30 p.m. until 12 midnight, Relay for Life will be receiving donations for an opportunity to win a beautiful quilt made and donated by Snow Hill’s Quilting Community.

She said the donation is $1 for one ticket or $5 for 10 tickets.

“Thank you Pastor Dale Braxton and the Snow Hill’s Quilting Community for your support,“ Colston said.

She expressed thanks to all 2013 Sponsors including: SABIC, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Lily Missionary Baptist Church, Lowndes County Commissioners, Dr. Thomas & Lyn Cawthon and Mr. Eddie Hinson, Ruby Jones-Thomas- Circuit Clerk, Jimmy Davis Auto Repair, Tom Coker & Assoc.  and Subway.
