Deputy injured in accident

A Lowndes County sheriff’s deputy has been released from the hospital following an accident on I-65 Wednesday morning.
At around 4 a.m. State Troopers responded to an overturned soft drink truck on I-65 southbound at the 151 exit (Letohatchee), according to Sgt. Steve Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
He said the driver of the truck was injured.
A second crash occurred at the scene around 5:35 a.m. when a vehicle collided with a Lowndes County Sheriff’s patrol car, Jarrett sad.
While Jarrett said the accident is still under investigation, he said witnesses say a sheriff’s deputy was outside of his vehicle when he and his vehicle were struck.
The deputy, identified by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office as Matthew Waldo, was transported to Baptist South, according Jarrett.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, he said.
Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams said Waldo has been released from the hospital to rest at home with no broken bones.
