The Billingsley Bears (6-3) took out the Central-Hayneville Lions (0-8) Friday night, 32-12.

Jimmie Lanier was the man of the hour, scoring all five of the Bears’ touchdowns, starting with a 73-yard run in the second quarter.

Lanier went on to run a 35-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and he returned a kickoff all the way 82 yards in the third. Other scores were 28 yards in the third and 38 yards in the fourth.

Lanier racked up 250 yards rushing. Also for Billingsley, Carlos Caver had significant stats on both sides of the ball with 35 yards rushing and 15 tackles.

Torrey Green made an interception in the fourth quarter.

“I thought our guys played hard,” said Billingsley coach Tyson McLean, adding next week the Bears will have a chance to reverse last year’s record of 3-7 for a 7-3 season, provided they beat the visiting Verbena Red Devils.

The Lions’ only two touchdowns were scored by Timothy Williams and Terraris Saffold, respectively.

Despite the Lions’ losing streak, McLean said the team had noticeably improved since last year.
