Homeland Security office receives clean state audit

Lowndes Count Office of Homeland Security Director Walter S. Hill has received a clean audit for the third straight year.

Hill’s office was audited by the state Department of Homeland Security to review and examine all aspects of the county’s Homeland Security grant program for the fiscal years 2003-2010.

The results in a summary letter from the Director of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security commended Hill for his “excellent job in the administration of the grant by sustaining an organized filing system and an efficient accounting system. In addition, to having done an excellent job in property management by maintaining an inventory system.”

There were no minor discrepancies.

According to the letter, “It is extremely commendable that your Office of Homeland Security program is rated as one of our top programs in the state and received no significant deficiencies.”

Hill said he is “appreciative to all the County’s law enforcement agencies and first responders for their commitment of public service and helping to maintain and ensure that the resources provided to them through the County’s Office of Homeland Security is utilized to the fullest extent in serving and protecting the lives and property of Lowndes County citizens and the State.”

Hill said, however, “…We must not rest on our laurels, however, must work continuously to maintain such accomplishments as good stewards and committed public servants.”
