Central Head Start program cuts ribbon on new classroom building

Earlier this month, the Lowndes County Board of Education Head Start formally opened a new building for the program in Hayneville.
Ms. Samita L. Jeter, Director, Lowndes County Board of Education Head Start said she is proud to announce that all classroom instruction is being held in three sound, structured, and educationally friendly buildings.
Central Head Start was the last center to be removed from the trailers and placed in a new facility.
The Central Head Start and Early Childhood Center Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held on August 2, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. on the Central Elementary School’s campus with over 120 community members present.
Mrs. Patricia Stiles, Education/Disabilities Manager was the Mistress of Order.
The Central High School JROTC rendered the Posting of Colors.
The audience sang in unison the National Anthem, Meditation was given by Reverend Robert Grant, LCPS Board Member.
Greetings were given by Harvey Means-Principal, Central Elementary, Samita Jeter, and Walter Hill, Mayor of Mosses. Select Central Head Start students were present and sang a song about dreams.
Dr. Daniel Boyd, Superintendent of Lowndes County Public Schools recognized the special guest that attended the ceremony.
The special guest included: Arthur L. Nelson Sr.-former LCBOEHS Head Start director, Ben Davis-LCPS Board Member, Reverend Robert Grant-LCPS Board Member, Tammy Webb-LCPS Board Member, U.S. Representative David Colston, former superintendent Eli Seaborn, architects-Barganier Davis & Sims, contractors-Hoyt Henley Builders, Policy Council President-Thomas Adams, grant writers-Jason Burroughs (Assist. Superintendent) and Juenesse Walton-consultant.
The new state of the art building will house six Head Start and three Kindergarten classrooms.
A speech pathologist will also share the space.
The Central Head Start Parents now also have a room in which they can meet and partake in educational activities.
The classrooms all have been equipped with Smartboards and smart tables for the children to become tech savvy.
Cake and lemonade were served to the guests after touring the new facility.
The Head Start program said it would like to thank the community for all of the support it has offered their children and families through the years, and they want the community to know that they are there to give your child a “Head Start!”
