The news is mixed for Lowndes County Schools in connection with the Annual Yearly Progress Report released Monday by the Alabama State Department of Education.

While the school district and three of the county’s public schools made 100 percent of their AYP goals, four schools in the district did not.

The results were part of the 2010-11 Accountability Reports.

The Lowndes County School District was listed among those school systems that made 100 percent of goals regarding their status for the 2011-2012 school year.

Among schools that made AYP (100 percent of goals) with regard to their status are Central Elementary, Hayneville Middle and Lowndes County Middle School.

Schools that did not make 100 percent of goals with regard to their status for the 2011-2012 school year are Calhoun High School, Central High School, Fort Deposit Elementary and Jackson-Steele Elementary.

“Not making AYP does not mean that the schools are doing worst, it means that our schools did not meet the AMO (Annual Measurable Objectives),” said Lowndes County Superintendent of Education Dr. Daniel Boyd. “Each year the AMOs increase and in the year 2014, the AMOs will be 100 percent.”

Alabama evaluated 1,383 public schools for 2011-12 AYP status (based on 2010-11 data), according to the state Department of Education.
