Wood farmed most of his life, starting with his family in Braggs, Alabama, in the early 1950’s.

After serving 2 years in the U. S. Army, he farmed 10 years in Prattville and 45 years in the Kings Landing area near Selma.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Selma and was recently honored as a deacon emeritus. Besides his ability to fix anything, many found him to be a man of his word, who worked hard and loved his family, friends, and neighbors very deeply.

He was especially close to his family. He lived his life with honor and integrity and passed it on to his family.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 17, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Saturday morning at 10 at the First Baptist Church of Selma with Dr. Jerry Light and Rev. Buddy Champion officiating. Burial will follow at the Sardis cemetery at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Davis Till, Johnny Watts, Johnny Till, Chuck Madaris, George Till, Roger York, Dan Till, and Josh Till. Honorary pallbearers will be members of First Baptist’s Maverick Sunday School class. Special thanks to the staffs of Cahaba Hospice and Baptist South for their loving care.

The family suggests gifts be directed to the Building Renovation Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, Post Office Box 1186, Selma, Alabama 36702-1186, or other favorite charities.
