The town of Mosses lost 75 people according to 2010 U.S. Census reports.

The report was one of the items discussed at Tuesday night’s town council meeting.

Mayor Walter S. Hill reported that the town has a population of 1,029, which includes 409 homes, 369 of which, are occupied and 40 are vacant.

The previous count for the town was 1,104 people, according to Town Clerk Libby Burke.

In other matters:
The town will work on a solid waste agreement with Lowndes Garbage Service and how to deal with surplus vehicles during a work session set also for Tuesday, March 22.

Mayor Hill noted that at present the town is operating outside the scope of a contractional agreement for disposal of solid waste.

Discussion included the need for a plan to dispose of solid waste if there was no one to pick it up and dealing with cleaning up illegal dumpsites.

“It was my thinking that part of that agreement should have been a plan,” Hill said.

Consent agenda items approved included:
A contract with Eric Love, CPA, to do audits for two fiscal years 2009 and 2010 at a cost of $5,500. The audit must be complete with a 60-day grace period.

The appointment of Lee Jackson Jr. as chairman of the Mosses Zoning Board.

And allowing Burke to attend a Community Development Block Grant workshop.
