Decorating the home or Christmas tree for the holiday season has been a long-time tradition for many.

The Ft. Deposit Three Arts Club (TAC) recently acknowledged a local town and a few Lowndes County homeowners for their holiday season decorating abilities.

Joe and Annie Bailey and Janelle Powell of Ft. Deposit were recognized Dec. 22 by the TAC for uniformly and brightly decorating their homes. The Bailey’s and Powell’s front yards were tagged with a sign from the TAC.

The acknowledgement stems from the TAC’s annual Christmas decoration contest, said TAC Community Improvement Chairperson Shirley Ryals.

“We do it every year and look for three houses,” said Ryals. “This year we did it at the big tree in Logan.”

The town of Logan was also recognized for its efforts adorning the large tree in the center of town with Christmas lights.

Entries were judged by a non-biased panel from areas outside the surrounding communities, including one from Birmingham, noted Ryals.

The contest has been held on-and-off by the TAC for the past 25 years, this year being the second in a row after a hiatus.

The TAC is a community-oriented club that offers services to other community members, such as decorating a street corner, the Calico Fort and Ft. Deposit signs, help DHR children and hold teacher appreciation days.

“We are a club that is community-oriented and like to do things for our community,” said Ryals.
