Time is drawing closer for residents, churches and businesses to put the finishing touches on their floats for Hayneville’s upcoming Christmas parade.

The parade will start near the old Russell Elementary school and progress through town to its final destination at the town square.

Residents are encouraged to attend Hayneville’s Christmas parade which starts around 11 a.m., Dec. 4, immediately after the Dollars for Scholars march.

Roscoe Miller of Lowndes County has been designated as the grand marshal to the parade and will be presented a key to the city of Hayneville, said Hayneville Mayor Helenor Bell.

Miller is well known as a radio personality in Montgomery.

“We appreciate the work he has done for the city of Hayneville and Lowndes County,” Bell said. “He has always been a great supporter of Hayneville, its children, government and businesses.”

Floats entered in the parade will be judged and the best three selected in varying categories will be presented with plaques.

“It is supposed to be cool that day,” Bell said. “People should dress warm and in festive Christmas colors.”

The annual float parade generally features nearly 70 participants and has drawn crowds in excess of 400 people showing off cars, floats, horses, bikes, marching bands and a number of other things, Bell said.

Following the parade, Hayneville will feature key note speakers, the Hayneville Middle School choir, the Central-Hayneville and Calhoun marching bands and finally a tree lighting ceremony, said Bell.

Bell noted the town’s appreciation for Hayneville Middle School Principal Antonio Williams partnering with the city of Hayneville.
