A Lowndes County Sheriff’s Deputy has returned home after being hospitalized this morning around 6 a.m.

Deputy Rufus Haralson and four others, including two children, were rushed to Baptist South this morning after the vehicle driven by Haralson flipped.

Haralson was driving along Highway 80 E toward Selma when the driver of a red Chevy car struck the back of the Inmate Transport Vehicle flipping it at Mile Marker 108 in White Hall.

Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Lenny Lee said the driver of the red car stated she was blinded by the sun at the time she hit the transport van.

“There were no life-threatening injuries,” said Lee. “All of the people involved were transported to the hospital.”

Haralson received stitches on his wrist, said Lee.
