The Lowndes County Board of Education (LCBOE) will see a new board member in the Ft. Deposit district.

Debbie Tammy Webb, who received 362 votes, earned a victory over her opponent Donald J. Carter, Jr, who received 353, by nine votes in Tuesday’s primary runoff.

Webb said she was pleased with the results of the July 13 runoff, though she “thought there would have been more of a turnout.”

Webb has plans to improve the Lowndes County Board of Education by encouraging more parental involvement and more programs for youth involvement.

“We need to take some time off the hands of our youth and make the system more effective with school-wide plans,” said Webb.

To improve education within the county, Webb said she will work to see more teachers from her area are employed at Ft. Deposit schools and hope to see a superintendent from Lowndes County.

“I would like to see a superintendent from Lowndes County who is more familiar with the struggle we have here,” said Webb.

Webb said funding received by the LCBOE is definitely adequate, but the school system needs more grant writers.

“The schools should get together as a team to come up with ideas on how to build Ft. Deposit back,” said Webb.
