Arrest made in Hayneville parking lot assault case

A woman accused of assaulting two females at the Hayneville Plaza has been arrested, according to the Hayneville Police Department.

Cortney Thompson, 18, was arrested and charged with three counts of assault in the third-degree July 1 for her role in the assault of two females in the Hayneville Plaza June 27.

Ashley Clark, 18, was on her way to a baby shower at the Hayneville plaza when she was confronted by Thompson and began arguing, according to reports.

Reports state Na’Jee Lawrence, 18, saw the Clark and Thompson arguing and made her way from inside the Plaza to the parking lot to intervene.

The argument erupted into a physical assault which sent Clark and Lawrence to the hospital for medical treatment.

Clark received severe cuts and bruises to her jaw, lips, nose and face and Lawrence received stitches for a large gash across her forehead, according to reports.

Thompson’s bond was set at $1,000 cash – one of Hayneville’s highest ever in a case like this, according to Hayneville Police Chief Kelvin Mitchell.
