The town of Mosses held a special-called town council meeting on Monday to discuss a request for an ABC beverage control license, which the council declined after much discussion.

The topic was presented by Geraldine Grant, owner of a soon-to-be sports bar and community center, and has been in discussion by the citizens and council of Mosses for many weeks.

“The people of Mosses want a place to go,” said Grant. “This complex would provide all children, parents and citizens of the town a restaurant and multiple forms of entertainment.”

Initial requests for the license were halted by the town council to seek further discussion and allow other members of the community, for or against, to attend meetings and offer debate.

Over the past few weeks, much of the discussion for the license has revolved around bringing business to the town of Mosses, keeping money and funds inside of town limits and providing residents with a place to relax and spend time together.

“This business is a multi-community center,” said Grant. “I’m trying to bring business and revenue to the town and help build this area.”

Much of the discussion concerning the request was covered in previous meetings, so many citizens were anxiously awaiting a final decision by the town council.

“Naturally, both sides will have opposition, but the council holds the final decision,” said former town clerk Mary Hester. “Why do we keep prolonging this?”

Thereafter, Mayor Walter Hill motioned for the council to make a decision concerning the request for approval of the ABC control board license.

The motion was denied by Willie Hill, seconded by Joe Bell and the decision carried unanimously across the council members.

Before adjourning the meeting, Hester requested the Mayor provide to the citizens of Mosses knowledge of the process required to remove all current council members from their positions.

Council members Willie B. Hill, Joe E. Bell, Carol Leafblad and Nathan Hartley refused to comment on the denial of the request.

Grant will seek approval from the state of Alabama concerning the ABC control board license.
