SELMA — Sher’Ryan Scott feels a responsibility to lead her teammates.

She performed that role so well this year that she was named All-Region Most Valuable Player in the Alabama Community College Conference.

“It’s the first time I’ve received something like this” Scott said. “I feel it was a great year. The team had a good bond, and the coaches were almost like parents to me.”

Scott, a sophomore at Wallace Community College from Hayneville, has several offers to continue her career, but she’s keeping quiet on where those offers are from.

Wallace coach April Harper said Scott’s desire and work ethic are good enough to take her almost anywhere.

“She’s one of the harder-working athletes I’ve ever come across,’ Harper said. “She’s always the leader and few athletes work as hard on their game after practice as she does.”

Harper also said Scott carries a 3.2 grade-point average, and is easy to coach.

Scott averaged 21 points a game for the Patriots and said she likes being the one everybody counts on.

“I couldn’t let me teammates and coaches down,” Scott said. “I had to pull through for them. I like them looking up to me and expecting the best from me.”

The ACCC All-Star game will be April 10 and Scott is waiting for a formal announcement that she will be a part of it. The announcement is expected next week.
