Roger Bault enjoyed a very happy birthday on January 29 in spite of the rain and cold weather.  He did not win at Bridge that afternoon but scored big in the evening at Greenville’s  “Tractor Supply” with two nice pair of jeans and a yummy supper at El Rodeo Mexican restaurant.

The owner, upon learning it was Roger’s birthday, gifted him with a beautiful “El Rodeo T-Shirt”.  Roger also received many cards and some other lovely gifts.

He has been the foreman of the “Carlson Farm” on County Rd. 45 since 2002.

He is a member of the Fort Deposit United Methodist Church and enjoys being a “ham operator” and is a member of the Jim Bell Wireless Association of Greenville.  We wish you many more happy birthdays Roger.

The Fort Deposit United Methodist Church hosted the “Fifth Sunday Service” on January 31, at 6:00.  Pastors involved were Dennis Carlson, Bob Watts and the speaker of the evening, Pastor Eric Jackson.

Over 70 people attended the service, enjoying refreshments in the fellowship hall afterward.  It was a lovely and inspiring evening enjoyed by all.  Music was provided by  Susan Barganier, Diane Carlson and soloist Karen Hollingshead.

Sharon and Ronnie Paulk, Brian Paulk and your writer visited our family in Tuscaloosa over the weekend.  The occasion was Ashley’s birthday.

Sharon and Ashley cooked a fabulous meal with several friends bringing salads, etc. and Crystal bringing her special peanut butter rice krispy cookies with a thick layer of chocolate frosting on the top, always a big hit.  Your writer spent Friday night and Sat. morning with Howard, Julie and Jake and we all attended the birthday meal.  Also The Breedlove family, and the Boykins.  This was a wonderful time for family and friends.

We all attended services at the University Church of Christ and after lunch, visited around a little more and home again.

The Alabama Defense Lawyers Association named Joana S. Ellis its vice president. Joana graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law and has practiced for 26 years.

ADLA is a group of 1,200 lawyers who devote much of their practice to the defense of civil lawsuits.  We’re very proud of Joana.

Those at the Nutrition Center were glad to have Dowling Frazier visit with them on Monday and were pleased to know that he had sold 22,000 of his books written about his time in a Japanese prison camp and many other interesting facts.

They were also glad to have Joe Huffman visit with them on Friday.  Most of us remember Joe from his years working in Dr. Lee’s dental office.

Mr. Lomax Conway passed away last week.  His funeral service was held at the Fort Deposit Church of Christ with interment at Myrtlewood Cemetery.  Mr. Lomax and wife Beth, have so many friends in many different places.

They loved people and people loved them.  They lived in Fort Deposit for many years, then bought a place at Orange Beach and enjoyed staying there.  Our sincere love and sympathy is extended to his children Betty Edgar, Larry Conway, Neva Conway, Max Conway and Barbara McDowell and their families.

Also to Lomaxs’ brothers Haurice Conway (Mary Alice), Tom Conway (Marguerite) and his sister Frances Gammon and her family.  Lomax and Beth have stayed with Max and Jewel a great deal of the time since his health has been in decline.  They have taken wonderful care of them with the help of all the family. It is so wonderful to me to see such a large family with so much love between them.

God has surely blessed them.

We were sad to learn of the death of Coleman Cates on Saturday. Coleman has worked at Cates Optical for many, many years with son Jack and wife Sharon Cates.  He had begun to have many health issues.  His wife, Mary Nell, has had some health problems also.  Our sincere sympathy to his wife, children, grandchildren and all other family and friends who knew him well.
