The Book of Isaiah says, “and I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘here am I! Send me.’

Applying the scriptures of Isaiah, four members of the Benton Baptist Church will be taking a six-day mission trip to Kenya to serve as missionaries to preschoolers and grade-school children.

The trip will serve as a Vacation Bible School for the children of that impoverished nation and will last from Feb. 6 through Feb. 17 with five days spent traveling to and from Kenya.

The goal of the missionaries is to meet the tangible needs of the children’s families and “glorify the Lord through the gospels of Jesus Christ and be unlike any mission trip taken by the members of Benton Baptist,” said Lee Tate, the pastor of Benton Baptist.

“I feel as though this will give the missionaries a broader world-view of God’s work,” said Tate.

Missionaries Susan Jones, Brenda Lane, Barbie Harrison and Sondra Tate spent four Saturdays at Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, the congregation designated to lead the project, to train for the mission trip.

They will be accompanied by members of other congregations from Atlanta and as far away as Wisconsin.

A team of 22 will assist the Kenyan families with needs through the “handing-out of gift baskets and praise and worship,” said Tate, who also said he feels confident in the mission trip thanks to much prayer support from the congregation which included money donated from everywhere.

The Lowndes County Church has done missionary work as far as Mexico, Yemen, Russia, Malawi and the Comoros Islands in the past two-and-a-half years alone.

“The congregation is excited about this mission,” said Tate. “We expect our missionaries to be of help to those who need it.”
