With more than 200 participants crowed into the Jackson-Steele Community Center in White Hall, the fifth annual Lowndes County Senior Olympics held Wednesday, March 26 was a success.
County Agent Millicent Braxton of Tuskegee University Extension Program, which held the event, said the more than 200 senior citizens who participated were mostly from Lowndes County, but she said they also included some 40 to 50 seniors from Dallas County, Greenville and Montgomery County.
Braxton said the event was “excellent.”
She said of the senior citizens who joined in for the fun, “They played checkers, went on a one-mile walk today, did jazzercise to get the body flowing and moving this morning. Also they played cards. They did bowling. They had all about plants over here with Ms. (Maggie) Legg. With Katanga Mants (County Extension coordinator for Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Lowndes County Office) they did arts and crafts.”
She said, “They played checkers with (Lowndes County District Court) Judge Adrian D. Johnson, and they had all sorts of game activities.”
Braxton explained, “So we had different people from the county come out to help make this program successful.”
